Countywide Notices
2026 Burn Ban
Catron County has been in a severe drought for years, with insufficient snowfall and unproductive monsoon seasons. As a result, we are currently under a burn ban that will likely continue through the summer. As per the ordinance, campfires, open fires, open burning of vegetation or rubbish, and any other smoke producing substance and material that creates a fire safety hazard are banned, this includes on the private properties in Blue Hills Ranch Subdivision.
As non-year-round residents come up during the next few months to spend some quiet time away, please be conscious of the dry weather and potential risk to your property and your neighbors and don't burn on your property. Catron County operates with small volunteer firefighting groups, the nearest of which is in Pie Town, a 30 minute drive. Windy conditions here can spread a fire extremely fast. It's not worth the risk.
Below are the official documents from the County Commissioner.
